This is an ideal safari for those who wish to Botswana with Chobe, Savute and the game-rich Moremi Concession of the Okavango Delta, staying in small camps with flights in between to maximize your safari experience.
You are met on arrival and transferred to Chobe Game Lodge for two nights. Chobe Game Lodge is an elegant, five-star, fully Ecotourism-certified safari lodge and the only property located inside the world-renowned Chobe National Park and set on the banks of the famous Chobe River. Immerse yourself in an all-encompassing safari on land and water in one of Africa’s primary wildlife destinations as the Chobe Game Lodge staff share their passion and explore the diversity of Botswana’s Chobe National Park with you.
Game Drives
Owing to the location of Chobe Game Lodge inside the Chobe National Park, early-morning game drives set off as soon as the park opens, giving you the best chance of tracking predators while they are still active. The afternoon drives depart the lodge in the late afternoon only returning at park closure time after sunset, thus maximizing the time you spend out in the park to enjoy those special sightings. The drives follow the course of the Chobe River as your experienced guide interprets the bush signs and tracks in search of the resident wildlife. Elephant encounters are common and huge herds of buffalo abound. The ever-present impala and the majestic giraffe are both common residents, while sightings of the puku antelope are also on offer. Predators are plentiful in the northern region of the Chobe National Park, and excellent sightings of lion, wild dog and leopard are to be had. The Chobe Game Lodge vehicles are open 4WD game viewers redesigned to make your trip comfortable and your viewing experience astonishing.
Boating Safaris
No Chobe safari is complete without experiencing the beauty of the Chobe River and its incredible wildlife by boat. The ‘skimmer boats’ seat up to 12 guests in comfortable, movable deck chairs on a flat and stable platform. The river boats are specifically designed to ensure each passenger can take in the magnificent Chobe views in complete comfort from anywhere on the boat. Owing to the flexibility in seating arrangements and the flat deck, the boats are ideal for keen wildlife photographers, with ample space for equipment and the freedom to photograph from any angle. Unlike any other water-based activity in Botswana, the game viewing while on a river safari in Chobe is unsurpassed anywhere in Botswana. Elephant line the water’s edge, hippo congregate in lagoons, hundreds of antelope and giraffe make their way to the water and sightings of predators along the river banks are common. Together with its fleet of electric land vehicles, Chobe Game Lodge has several electric and solar-powered safari boats – a clean and quiet way to enjoy a boat safari and another first for tourism in Africa.
After a morning game drive and breakfast you will be transferred to Kasane for your scenic flight to Savute Safari Lodge. The light aircraft flight gives you a great bird’s eye view of the Botswana landscapes. On arrival at the Savute airstrip you will be met and transferred to the Savute Safari Lodge for three nights.
Savute Safari Lodge’s chalets, which have been elegantly furnished in calm neutral tones to blend with the natural environment, feature expansive private decks, a combined bedroom and lounge area and en suite facilities. Sink into one of the numerous comfortable leather, wood or wicker sofas in the lounge – and library – or sip a cocktail in the stylish bar. All these facilities are situated in a beautiful two-storey thatch-and-timber main building. Savute Safari Lodge offers a shaded viewing deck, an al fresco dining area and swimming pool with spectacular pool loungers – ideal for watching the varied wildlife – including the resident Elephants – as they make their way to the Channel to drink, bathe and play.
Game Drives
Activities are organized around game drives throughout the Savute area in open 4×4 safari vehicles. Many trips will incorporate a visit to the Savute Marsh to give you a chance to see the historic presence of the Savute Channel at the marsh against a backdrop of teeming wildlife. Guests can also enjoy a visit to the ancient San rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills – a small hilly outcrop which forms a prominent landmark in the otherwise flat landscape. Savute boasts the second-largest summer Zebra migration in Africa; its timing is determined by the rains, but usually occurs between November and December and again between February and April, when the Zebras move from the rivers in the north in search of the rain-ripe grasslands and full waterholes in the southwest of the park. The migration is always followed by large numbers of predators – the Zebra migration is a must for visitors.
After an early morning game drive and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your short flight to the Moremi area. Upon arrival at the airstrip you will be met and transferred to Camp Moremi for two nights, an exclusive camp located within the game-rich Moremi Game Reserve on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta.
Guests will enjoy the luxurious seclusion of East African-style safari tents, each one set on a raised teak deck, each featuring an en suite bathroom. Accommodating a maximum of twenty-four guest, Camp Moremi ensures exclusivity and privacy in a tranquil environment. Two dining areas serve buffet-style food; special dietary needs are catered for by prior arrangement. Breakfast, brunch and high tea are served in the thatched boma; dinner is savoured under an ebony canopy in the dining room and nightcaps are enjoyed beside the warmth of the glowing fire pit. Guests can also relax by the secluded swimming pool, marvel at spectacular sunsets from the lagoon-side viewing deck, or enjoy the wildlife reference library, lounge and cocktail bar in the elevated thatch and timber main building.
Game Drives
Guest activities include morning and afternoon game drives throughout the many different ecosystems that the Moremi Game Reserve has to offer. Experienced guides will introduce you to a whole new world of wildlife; watch a Leopard stretched out lazily in the branches of a Mopane tree, herds of Elephant grazing under a canopy of green or a pride of Lions camouflaged in the long grass. Moremi Game Reserve’s incredible wetlands support a vast number of antelope, including Impala, Kudu and Waterbuck. The majestic Fish Eagle and vivid Malachite Kingfisher are frequently seen and even the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl makes an occasional appearance, to the delight of guides and guests alike.
Motorized Boating
Explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels by boat for a chance to enjoy the picturesque waters of the Okavango Delta, with its kaleidoscope of birdlife.
After a morning game activity and breakfast you are transferred by light aircraft on another scenic flight to Maun to connect to your flight onward.
