There is a new gorilla habituation experience is being offered by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This new experience is designed to allow a small number of tourists to spend more time with mountain gorillas during their habituation. This is the first time UWA has allowed visitors to join the researchers and habituators.

The gorilla habituation experience is different from a regular gorilla trek in several ways including group size, time spent with the gorillas and price.

A maximum group of four people participate in the habituation experience and groups spend four hours with the gorillas versus the usual one hour. The cost is of the permit for this experience is USD $1500 per trekker.

The habituation experience lasts almost all day, and can involve some more difficult trekking at elevations of up to 7500 feet. Clients interested in the experience should have a reasonable level of fitness to participate.

The habituation experience is currently possible in Rushaga, located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. We recommend staying at the Chameleon Hill Lodge which has a stunning setting over Lake Mutanda and combinations are also possible with the Chimps of Kibale and the great wildlife of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Permits are very limited for this special experience, please contact us about arranging this special trip for you.
